Ik zie, ik zie wat jij niet ziet
This installation is about our inability to really see the other, to really listen and hear what the other has to say, to appreciate the other for who that person is and to see it separately from certain beliefs the other has, which you may not agree with. Really seeing the other seems to be becoming more and more difficult in today’s society.
Through all those layers of hanging net curtains, in this maze of found materials, it is difficult to see the other, although you can open and close these curtains here and there as a visitor. Sentences and words (in Dutch) such as; ‘who are you?’ ‘really’ ‘hidden’ ‘filtered’ ‘protected’ ‘up close?’ drawn on the glass of windows, you only see when you look up.
